Sun River is located within 25 miles of Giant Springs State Park. The 4,500-acre park is home to one of the largest freshwater springs in the nation and draws more than 300,000 visitors each year with fishing, hunting, picnicking, wildlife viewing, and over 20 miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and snowmobiling.

Located 60 miles to the east is Gibson Reservoir, a popular destination for fishing, boating, camping, hiking, and hunting. The 1,296-acre reservoir features excellent fishing for rainbow, cutthroat, and brown trout and is bounded by a 15-mile hiking trail that follows the South Fork of the Sun River to Pretty Prairie.
