About Ft. Shaw, MT - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

Fort Shaw is located in Cascade County, Montana, approximately 25 miles west of Great Falls and 80 miles north of Helena. The city is home to approximately 300 residents and a business-friendly economy bolstered by economic amenities such as low unemployment, recent positive job growth, and median household incomes more than 45% higher than that of the national average.

Fort Shaw is named for the historic U.S. Army fort that was established nearby to protect settled areas and the Fort Benton-Helena stage route from hostile Indian attacks. The fort existed from 1867 to 1891, when it was abandoned and transferred to the U. S. Department of Interior, serving as a school for Native American children from 1892 until 1910. Existing portions of the fort still stand and are included in the Fort Shaw Historic District and Cemetery, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in January of 1985.

Fort Shaw’s semi-arid climate produces pleasant summers and cold, snowy winters – perfect weather for enjoying the numerous opportunities for year-round outdoor sports and recreation that dominate the region.

The city is located 20 miles southeast of Freezeout Lake, a designated Wildlife Management Area that is the primary migration point for hundreds of thousands of snow geese and over ten thousand tundra swan during March and April of each year. The lake offers a variety of recreational opportunities that include waterskiing in summer, iceboating in winter, and hunting of waterfowl, muskrat, and upland game birds during designated hunting seasons.

Giant Springs State Park is located 30 miles east of the city. The 4,500-acre park is home to one of the largest freshwater springs in the nation and draws over a quarter of a million visitors each year with fishing, hunting, picnicking, wildlife viewing, and over 20 miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and snowmobiling.

Conveniently situated along State Route 200, just twelve miles west of Interstate 15, Fort Shaw is a great place to experience the rich history and spectacular beauty of Central Montana!
